While out in the community, BEC Specialist met Jane Doe who lives in Allen county and is raising her grandson. Jane lives on a fixed income and also receives minimal social security for her grandson. Even with these incomes, Jane Doe was struggling to make ends meet.

While talking with Jane, it was discovered she was receiving Medicare but was paying the premiums and Co-pays while she shouldn't have been as she was eligible for Medicaid. Also, Jane Doe was eligible for HEAP and PIPP services as well that could significantly reduce her utility costs.

After discussing these potential benefits, Jane Doe agreed to schedule an appointment to review all available resources. At the meeting,  BEC Specialist assisted her in successfully applying for Medicaid and HEAP/PIPP.

As a result, Jane will now save thousands of dollars annually through reduced medical and utility costs. She was so grateful and relieved learning about these programs, as she did not know these resources were available to her. Jane was beyond thrilled and thankful for the support and assistance provided from Area Agency on Aging 3.
